Cristiano Ronaldo has dropped a bombshell regarding his recent clash with the Portugal national team, revealing details of a dialogue between him and manager Jorge Jesus. Ronaldo stated that a loss of trust was the primary driver behind his decision to leave the team’s training camp.
The Portuguese captain revealed he was preparing to release an official announcement to fans regarding his international retirement before the President of the Portuguese Football Federation intervened, urging him to stay. Ronaldo agreed to continue and backed the appointment of Jesus as head coach.
Ronaldo explained that while Jesus assured him he was part of his plans, the manager simultaneously asked him not to travel for the upcoming fixtures against Norway and Denmark—a request Ronaldo rejected, citing his duty as team captain.
“30 Minutes” Sparked the Crisis
According to Ronaldo, the turning point occurred during the Norway match. He was asked to get ready for a 30-minute appearance and warmed up throughout the second half, only for the match to end without him playing a single minute.
He added that the manager failed to honor their prior agreement or clarify the situation during the post-match press conference as planned, ultimately eroding his confidence in the coaching staff.
Ronaldo: “I Bear Full Responsibility and Accept the Penalty”
Following the incident, Ronaldo decided to depart the training camp, stressing that he accepts full responsibility for his decision and is prepared to face any disciplinary action imposed on him.
He emphasized that rules must apply equally to everyone, signaling that he expects no special treatment despite his status or captain’s armband.
No Farewell Match—Victory Remains the Goal
Ronaldo dismissed the idea of a testimonial or farewell match, asserting that his current focus remains solely on competing and winning.
He concluded by confirming that the door to the national team remains open. He expects to be available for selection once his suspension ends, provided he is physically fit, playing regularly, and scoring for his club.
Closing his message, the captain reaffirmed his commitment to fight for his country, signaling that his international career is far from over and his drive to win with Portugal remains intact.
