Al Nassr is reportedly preparing to discontinue all non-football sports activities as part of efforts to pave the way for a new phase of privatization and investment-led transformation, amid growing speculation about potential changes to the club’s structure and sporting operations.
Saudi journalist Abdulaziz Al-Osaimi reported on his account on X that Al Nassr Company had decided to abolish all other sports activities in preparation for the club’s anticipated privatization and transition in the coming period. He also wished the club success in its next phase.
However, neither Al Nassr nor its company has issued an official statement confirming the reported decision or providing further details, leaving the scope and implementation timeline of the move unclear.
Previous Cuts to Non-Football Sports
The reports come amid Saudi Arabia’s broader push to expand private-sector involvement in sports through investment and privatization initiatives. These efforts aim to improve governance and operational efficiency, increase private investment and strengthen the long-term financial sustainability of sports clubs.
Al Nassr has previously moved to scale back several non-football sports, including freezing the activities of its basketball and volleyball teams as part of wider changes affecting the club’s sporting operations outside football.
If implemented, the reported decision would mark a broader shift in the club’s approach to managing its sports activities, extending beyond previous measures to reduce or suspend selected disciplines.
Questions Over the Future of Players and Staff
The reports have raised questions about the future of Al Nassr’s non-football teams, including the status of players and the coaching and administrative staff associated with those activities.
Attention is also turning to how the club’s management might address existing contractual and financial commitments should the decision be formally approved. Supporters and observers are likewise awaiting clarification on whether the move will be accompanied by further changes to the club company’s organizational structure or operating strategy as part of a potential investment-driven transition.
For now, key details remain unconfirmed, including the expected implementation date, the specific sports that would be affected and the arrangements for players and staff.
Until Al Nassr or its company issues an official statement, the reported decision remains unverified, with no formal implementation plan publicly disclosed.
