Real Madrid’s long-running dispute with Spanish refereeing has escalated, with the club’s official television channel launching a fierce attack on match officials following a controversial 1-0 victory over Villarreal.

Although Los Blancos secured all three points, the match was overshadowed by the dismissal of Brazilian forward Vinícius Júnior. The incident sparked widespread controversy after the referee disallowed a second goal from the winger before showing him a red card for allegedly pulling the hair of Villarreal defender Nathan Saliba.

“The Negreira League Is Back!” — Real Madrid TV Questions Refereeing Standards

Real Madrid TV went beyond a routine post-match complaint, launching a scathing critique of Spanish refereeing and revisiting several contentious decisions from previous matches.

The broadcaster presented footage from earlier encounters, including the Madrid derby against Atlético Madrid, arguing that disciplinary standards were being applied inconsistently across clubs.

In one of its strongest statements, the channel declared: “The footage speaks for itself once again. The Negreira League is back!”

Real Madrid TV also highlighted several challenges it believed should have resulted in disciplinary action, including Lee Kang-in’s challenge on Federico Valverde and Cristian Romero’s forceful tackle on Jude Bellingham.

The channel questioned why certain incidents allegedly went unpunished, arguing that the lack of appropriate sanctions raised further concerns about the consistency of officiating in Spanish football.

Corruption Allegations and Lamine Yamal Comparison Intensify Row

The controversy escalated further when Real Madrid TV openly questioned the integrity of the competition, raising concerns about the fairness and impartiality of the refereeing system.

“Is there manipulation of the competition? Is there corruption within the system?” the broadcaster asked.

The channel also drew comparisons with Barcelona, Real Madrid’s fiercest rivals, citing a reported 45-minute period during last season’s match against Rayo Vallecano when the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system was unavailable.

One analyst argued that Vinícius’ disallowed goal would have been allowed had Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal committed the same offense.

“If Lamine Yamal had done exactly what Vinícius did, the goal would never have been disallowed,” the analyst claimed, suggesting that referees scrutinize Real Madrid players more closely when making controversial decisions.

These allegations have added another layer to the ongoing debate over consistency and impartiality in Spanish football, although the broadcaster’s claims remain its own interpretation of the incidents.

Ortiz Arias and Rüdiger Booking Fuel Real Madrid’s Frustration

Referee Ortiz Arias also came under scrutiny from Real Madrid TV over his reaction to an incident involving Federico Valverde during the Madrid derby.

The channel condemned what it described as a smile from the official, calling the gesture “shameful, humiliating and extremely dangerous.”

The broadcaster’s criticism extended to the yellow card shown to Real Madrid defender Antonio Rüdiger during the Villarreal match, which further fueled the club’s frustration with the officiating.

The incidents have reignited debate among Madrid supporters over the treatment of their team and the standards applied by Spanish match officials.

Real Madrid TV Calls for Equal Treatment Under the Rules

Real Madrid TV concluded its criticism by demanding that the laws of the game and disciplinary regulations be applied consistently to every club, without exception.

The broadcaster argued that concerns over Spanish refereeing remain unresolved, pointing to what it sees as persistent inconsistencies in decision-making and a lack of impartiality.

By reviving the Negreira controversy and highlighting a series of disputed decisions, Real Madrid TV has once again brought the relationship between the club and Spanish refereeing into the spotlight.

Despite their victory over Villarreal, the debate surrounding Vinícius’ dismissal and the broader questions raised by the club’s broadcaster looks set to continue.

Vinícius Júnior Shares Compilation of Controversial Challenges on Instagram

Vinícius Júnior has also weighed in on the controversy, sharing an image on his Instagram account featuring a compilation of incidents involving challenges against Real Madrid players.

The post highlighted several disputed tackles and physical confrontations, raising questions over the consistency of disciplinary decisions in Spanish football. It also carried a sarcastic caption in Spanish: “And the one who always gets booked, with yellow and red cards, is Vinícius. What a disgrace!” followed by laughing emojis.

The post appeared to reflect the Brazilian forward’s frustration with what he perceives as unequal treatment by match officials, adding another dimension to the growing controversy surrounding Spanish refereeing and the decisions involving Real Madrid.
